Today we are going to talk about how to create consistent characters with AI Art. In our previous blog post, we talked about how you can achieve this by uploading pictures into Midjourney. Today we are going to reveal more techniques to achieve amazing results!
As AI art becomes more accessible and prevalent in storytelling mediums, the ability to create consistent and compelling characters has become a critical skill. In this blog post, we'll explore the importance of creating consistent characters in Midjourney and provide examples from the iconic cyberpunk film, Blade Runner.

Why Consistent Characters are Important
Consistent characters are the foundation of any great story. They are the driving force behind the plot and are what keep readers and viewers engaged. Characters that are well-developed and consistent in their actions, beliefs, and motivations, and visually, in the way they appear, create a sense of authenticity and relatability that makes them more memorable and compelling.
Why Consistent Characters are Challenging to Create
In AI art generators, creating consistent characters can be challenging because the algorithms used to generate the art are are trained on data sets and patterns, and while they can create impressive outputs, they may not be able to create consistent characters by understanding exactly what you want to draw from a few words. Until now!
Tricks to Create Consistent Characters in Midjourney
Trick Number 1 | Use Famous Actors Names
If you name your character as a famous actor, you are referencing to someone specific that Midjourney has data on.
In this example, I used Diane Kruger. This is the prompt I used:
PROMPT - /imagine prompt:Diane Kruger in the style of Artgerm, Blade Runner atmosphere, hyperrealstic, portrait, insanely detailed --ar 16:9
You can see that Midjourney tends to create very similar images from the same prompt, which is great to create consistent characters!
The resemblance with the famous person may be too evident, at times, so you may
Avoid people that are too famous
Discard pictures that are too similar to the person they are based on
Tweak the prompt (we will see how)
Use a specific art styles that can create the necessary variety.
But anyway, check out how many shots of my character I have with only a couple of prompts!

I tried the same prompt with Benicio del Toro. The character looks very cool and slick, he is not too similar to the original actor and, anyway, the association to someone's famous ensures that my character has some distinctive traits across all the pictures. Also, if you are not doing an exact portrait of someone's famous, you can use this technique to easily create consistent characters across multiple scenes!

Trick Number 2: Create an original Character with names and attributes
You can give your character a name and try adding details like hair color or nationality. This way, even if you are not referencing to an actor, you are referencing to someone, and adding details, so Midjourney will give you more consistent results This is my original character
1. Jason Fowler
2. Blond Jason Fowler
3. American Blond Jason Fowler
And look how consistent he is! Midjourney is giving me very consistent results by using this technique. Not only that, he is also very cool...definitely an amazing character for a steampunk novel or comic!

I have to make sure I always use the same description American Blond Jason Fowler in all the prompts, to get consistent results. As you can see, I am adding the part"in the style of Artgerm, Blade Runner atmosphere, hyperrealstic, portrait, insanely detailed" in all my prompts.
Here I edited the prompt, to use my character in different settings and doing different action, as I explained in this blog post.
PROMPT - /imagine prompt:American Blond Jason Fowler riding a moto in the style of Artgerm riding a moto, Blade Runner atmosphere, hyperrealstic, portrait, insanely detailed --ar 16:9
I then created another character: Redhead Canadian Woman Diane Fowler with a white leather jacket, and the results where pretty impressive and consistent!
PROMPT - /imagine prompt:Redhead Canadian Woman Diane Fowler with a white leather jacket on a train, in the style of Artger, Cyberpunk atmosphere, hyperrealstic, portrait, insanely detailed --ar 16:9
And another one: Black Haired Asian Lee Hun, and I got another consistent character in different frames, scenes and poses very fast.
PROMPT - /imagine prompt:Black Haired Asian Lee Hun on a train, in the style of Artgerm, Cyberpunk atmosphere, hyperrealstic, portrait, insanely detailed --ar 16:9
As I was trying to create pictures of this character with other characters, I randomly stumbled upon this male character that I liked, created by Midjourney.
I then decided to use the UPLOAD PICTURE METHOD
I then opened the picture in a new tab, copy-pasted the address and use it as a base for my future prompts, as I explained in this post
Prompt 1: Image + Action

Prompt 2: Image + Action + Original Prompt

And there you go! Those pictures are not 100% perfect, but they are a very good start
In a few minutes, by applying these techniques, I was able to create a few consistent characters, put them in different scenes and even combine them together in the same shot.
I then go to Jasper, one of the Artificial Intelligence tools I use for writing, marketing and more, and I elaborate a plot starting from the characters I have.
I am not going to write a comic now, but I am using AI to generate ideas and learn more about art, styles and writing and expand my knowledge!

One of the ways to create consistent characters in Midjourney is using famous people's names (making sure your character doesn't resemble too much to the original person) or creating characters with a name and attributes like physical description, nationality, outfit or others. This will give more precise instructions to the art generator and will help you get consistent characters faster. You can change the aspect ratio, add different actions to the prompt but ensure you always keep the most part of your prompt the same. The goal is to create prompt variations to keep a consistent style.
