Estimated Time
For the sake of this project, I am going fast. But if it was my signature book, I would take my time and really try to explore the characters world and the story as much as possible.
Idea Generation + Sketch Generation = 3 hours
Story generation = 3 hours
Cover = I would give max 2 days to the freelancer
Formatting = let's give him 2 days to make it coo (it's about 7,000 words, 60 illustrations and 50 pages to play with)
Total time: 3 days to complete the full book, 1 day if I don't outsource any part of it
Considerations
As mentioned, given the incredible potential of AI, there's no need to rush. But for this particular example I set to my mind that I wanted to write a story fast, so it took a few hours. In reality, you should spend as much time as you want thinking about it and refining the idea.
Nevertheless, you should also realize that if you want to create and publish a great product in 2/3 days, you definitely can!
It's much better to publish something FAST, with LOW BUDGET, than being overwhelmed by the impossible challenge of writing a children's book and never get it done.
I just showed you how much you can get it done in a few hours.
With the tech available, and your passion, you can create amazing children's book, just don't be a perfectionist! Let it out, and learn from it!
Step by Step creative process list (short version)
There are many ways to create a story, a novel, a book.
You can start from a dialogue, a concept, a venue, an image, an idea...and your mind can start wandering back and forth and come up with a story.
Here is the process I used this time.
I was generating images on Midjourney and try my Midjourney Promp Generator
I casually found a nice Midjourney Prompt, I started tweaking it and I saw I could obtain good results and different characters, and similar environment from different angles, which is very important to get the illustrations with a consistent look
I simply looked a the images and I liked that mood, so I saved all the images I liked and then I re-run them or tweaked the prompts and see what I got
so basically this time I started from the images, without having a story!
Looking at the images I said: "ok, I have a cat, a giant cat, a mystical forest and a few other mystical creatures"
I went to Jasper and I started asking Artificial Intelligence to help me brainstorm ideas for my children's book
After 1 or 2 hours, I had all I needed!
Step by Step creative process list (longer version)
1. I was generating images with the Midjourney prompt generator. I wasn't planning on writing a children's book, but I started seeing some amazing consistent images and I had in mind to write a post about "how to write a children's book"
2. As soon as I thought that I could write a chiIdrens' book, I was in! I started generating more images in Midjourney and tried to edit the prompt to generate new characters and angles. So basically I started from the characters
Once I got the characters, I just went on Chat GPT and Jasper, and I simply started to type in my ideas and what I had. Very rough concepts, I just gave AI my ideas and told my goal (writing a children's book)
After a few iterations, I got the story, the message, the characters, the storyline, the outline!
Please note: beside being a AI enthusiast, and engineer and an online expert, I am also passionate about writing, so I knew how to guide AI to help me produce the outcomes I wanted.

You can learn more about the steps to writing a book, basically: all the questions you should know to create compelling stories!
I kept refining the idea and guide Jasper where I wanted, taking and discarding ideas on the go.
In the meantime, I kept going to Midjourney to generate new images as the story progressed.
I used Wix Gallery Function (above) just keep organizing the images, putting them in chronological order as the ideas came in, so I had a better idea of the story and its progression.
Wix helped me simply see the ideas visually as I organized them in a gallery and I could drag and drop them to put them in order.
Once I had the character, the story idea, the concept and he illustrations in order, I then asked Jasper to create an outline (list of chapters)

I kept playing with the outline, got info about the number of pages, possible formatting and then I proceeded to ask AI to expand upon the chapters and keep bouncing ideas.
I then put together all the material, decide title, formatting, wrote description and social media material and started looking into options to format the book (again, I could do it myself, but I would rather spend 50-150 USD to speed it up as it's not my main strenght)
Improvements
If I wanted to become a childrens book author, I would:
Spend more time on Midjourney to find styles, images and ideas
Spend more time on Jasper and Chat GPT to write ideas, stories and learn more about styles, artists, books, authors and how to appeal to my buyer persona
Spend more time on Jasper and Chat GPT to conceive a wider idea for my story series and characters
Spend more time to either learn how to format the book or researching the right freelancer that can help me format the book and design the cover to create a great final product
Use AI to come up with styles, ideas, influences, and take my art to the next level!
